Privacy Policy

广州登月科技有限公司 (Guangzhou Dengyue Technology Co., Ltd., “we”) develops and operates the mainland China edition of 猫咖背单词 (Bundle ID: com.dengyue.maokavocab). This policy applies only to that app and this page, not to editions of Mocavoca for other regions.

1. Information we process

The app stores your wordbook selection, study and answer history, review progress, coins, furniture and cat states, reminder time, pronunciation preferences and sound settings on your device. Today's new-word and review counts and consecutive completed days may also be stored locally in storage shared by the app and its home-screen widget.

If you sign in using an email verification code, Apple or Google, we process your email, name or display name, account ID, sign-in provider identifier and session information. Session information includes the session identifier and expiration time and, when available to the server, your IP address and browser or device identifier.

When you or the app sync after sign-in, the account service stores study events, including word identifiers, study stages, answer results, answer times, completion dates, coins and furniture states. It also stores display names, friend names, friend requests, friendships and leaderboard data. Wordbook content and widget data are not uploaded to the account service by this sync feature.

Accepted friends can view each other's daily task completion, new-word and review counts and shared streak. If you enable “Show study details to friends”, friends can also view the specific words studied and coins earned that day. Turning it off hides those two details from friends. After a friendship is removed, neither person can continue reading the other's friend study data.

2. Notifications, analytics and system permissions

After sign-in, the app requests notification permission. If granted, it obtains a device token from Apple Push Notification service (APNs) and associates that token, the development or production environment and the interface language with your account to send friend-request and acceptance notifications. If you enable daily reminders, the same permission is used for local study reminders.

When product analytics is enabled, the app sends app opens, page views, feature actions, a device identifier not linked to your signed-in account, and app and operating-system versions to PostHog. You can turn analytics off or on in “Privacy and data”. We do not use these data for ad targeting or cross-app tracking.

Word pronunciation and sound effects use audio output only. The current app does not request microphone, camera, contacts, photos or location permission.

3. How we use information

We use this information for sign-in, study sync, friends, leaderboards, notifications, troubleshooting and support, and to understand feature usage if you enable analytics. We do not sell personal information or provide study or account data to advertisers.

4. Sharing, third-party services and processing locations

The account service, Apple Push Notification service, PostHog, sign-in providers, website hosting, network transmission and business email providers process the information needed to deliver their respective features. Their terms and privacy policies govern their processing.

The services listed above may store or process information outside mainland China. We handle personal information according to applicable law. We may disclose relevant information when required by law, lawfully requested by judicial or administrative authorities, or necessary to protect the lawful rights of users and the public.

5. Retention and deletion

• Account and synced data: retained until you select “Delete account” on the account page. Deletion removes your account, sessions, synced study history, friendships, leaderboard profile, coins, furniture and associated APNs device tokens from the account service.
• Local device data: retained until you select “Clear local data” or uninstall the app. Copies in system backups are governed by the relevant backup rules.
• Product analytics: handled according to the analytics project's retention settings. Turning analytics off stops the app from sending further events.
• Website access logs and support emails: retained as needed for security, troubleshooting, inquiries, complaints or disputes, then deleted when no longer needed and no legal retention obligation applies.

Deleting your app account does not delete local device data or automatically cancel an Apple subscription. Clear local data separately and manage subscriptions in your Apple account's subscription settings. See Data and deletion.

6. Information security

The app and website use HTTPS. We restrict access to the account service and support mailbox and use reasonable measures including access controls, log rotation and software updates. No network or storage method can guarantee absolute security.

7. Minors

Minors should use the app and contact support under a guardian's guidance. Guardians can contact our support email with questions about information processing.

8. Policy updates

We update this policy and its effective date when app features, third-party services or applicable rules change. We notify users of material changes by appropriate means.
